I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love Elsewares. I randomly stumbled across the site for the first time a few months ago, and ever since the
n I’ve been lusting over more than a few items there. I just got their latest newsletter yesterday in my inbox, and now I’ve fallen even more in love!
The newsletter featured some of their new fused-glass belt buckles by Austin, Texas-based Fourteenfifty Designs (which is apparently named after the temperature at which glass melts). At $165 each, these belts are definitely something I’ll want to save up for, but ultimately, who can resist? They’re such a great conversation piece, and since they’re one-of-a kind and made by hand, I think they’re worth the price.
One of my other favorite Elsewares designers is Fjord. Based in Williamsburg, B
rooklyn, this consortium of artists prints sassy Scandinavian themed-designs on t-shirts, hoodies, and dresses. I’ve got to say, I’ve really been wanting this Viking-print dress for awhile now.
Elsewares carries a pretty eclectic assortment of stuff for your body and home. They’ve got bracelet cuffs made from recycled beer and soda cans, a hand grenade oil lamp made from actual US army surplus grenades, kangaroo clutches, and even stylish gear for pets and kids.
Elsewares is totally my kind of shopping experience…they strive to stock products created by individual artisans and manufacturers that care about worker’s rights and the environment. They’re in it for the little guy, and they’re always on the lookout for new products, so if you’re an indie designer or artist, drop them a line and let them know about your work.
