Trashy Diva – classically sexy clothing & lingerie

obi dress in dragonflyI cannot rave enough about how much I love Trashy Diva. This has been my absolute favorite store for years now…I think it will pretty much always remain that way. Just the other day, at the Alternative Media Expo, I was talking to one of the girls who works there…I was telling her how I used to shop there way back when they were located on Decatur Street and they sold only vintage clothing. They’ve expanded and changed a lot since then, and I love them more than ever.

Now they’ve got two New Orleans locations – 829 Chartres Street in the French Quarter (just off of Jackson Square) and 2048 Magazine Street. They’ve expanded both of these locations recently…the back room of their Magazine Street shop is now stocked with all of their vintage clothing, and they just added a new store next door to the French Quarter shop which showcases their vast array of corsets and lingerie.

Wearing anything from the Trashy Diva clothing line makes me feel like the epitome of feminine glamour. They’re not the cheapest boutique in town, certainly, butIsabella striped lace corset everything there is so timeless that I look at buying a dress or corset from them as an investment. I look forward to the special occasions when I get to dress up, Trashy Diva style.

Luckily, you don’t have to live in New Orleans to enjoy the beauty of Trashy Diva clothing. They carry pretty much everything they make in their online shop, plus there are also select boutiques around the U.S. and as far away as London and Japan that carry some of their styles.

They always seem to have some sort of sale happening on their website. They’re currently trying to liquidate some of their trixie hurricane dressinventory to make room for their newer collections. They recently launched a bridal line, and a new Trashy Diva lingerie collection will hit their stores later this fall.

The owner, Candice Gwinn, designs all of the Trashy Diva clothing herself, and she bases most of patterns off of vintage styles. Everything is of amazing quality, and the fabrics are totally luxurious (the dresses are often made of heavy weight silk crepe). Candice has not only a great sense of style, but a great sense of humor as well. Apparently their new “hurricane print”, featuring pink ladies and umbrellas caught in a hurricane, was inspired by and conceived during Hurricane Katrina. That’s a true New Orleanian for you, always able to find a bit of humor and beauty, even in the midst of great tragedy.

The lovely little shop in London that carries the fab Trashy Diva is CRIMSON near Hyde Park & Marble Arch. TIME OUT magazine called CRIMSON “a flamboyant nugget of a shop” and Fabric magazine voted CRIMSON Best Fashion Boutique in London 2007. The shop carries lots of young independent UK designers including whimsical print designer Ria Roberts. If you’re in London be sure to pop into CRIMSON – owner Anmarie McDonald is an American and is more than happy to pass on advice to seeing the sights of bonny London!
