Etsy Finds – Fused Glass

by MissMalaprop on September 11, 2006

I’ve been on a fused glass jewelry kick lately, in a big way. I blame it on fellow New Orleans Craft Mafia member Heather MacFarlane, who makes these gorgeous multi-colored fused glass pendants (I have two of her creations already, but I still want more!). I started doing someAmy Burhoe Fused Glass Pendant searches on Etsy last night for “fused glass” and I’m overwhelmed by the results! So many amazing and totally different ways in which people have expressed themselves through fused glass.

If you love bright, vibrant colors, try out Amy Burhoe’s designs. The yellow, blue and white pendant to the right is just one example of the way she mixes and matches fun colors to create modern, stylish jewelry (and even nightlights!). There are even more of her creations available at her website, AmyBurhoe.com.

Another fused glass Etsy artist with a keen eye for color is iFuse Solutions. This contemporary artisan creates fused glass coaster sets that resemble Andes mints, plates and serving platters such as the Springtime Sushi Platter, wine bottle stoppers, and of course, plenty of funky fused glass jewelry.

Atomic Glassworks Glass PoppiesIf you want color mixed with imagery, check out Pollyfusia’s House of Squid or sister shop Squidglass. I love the gas mask pendants and the pieces made using images from old Montgomery Ward catalogs.

I’m also a big fan of the way Portland-based Atomic Glassworks uses simple images and bright colors to create hip, casual jewelry. The red glass poppies necklace to the left is inspired by art nouveau, but if you’re feeling a little more silly or daring, try a robot or the anatomically correct heart necklace.

Asian Red by Catherine BoydIf you’re looking for something a little more elegant, check out the Asian Red pendant, pictured at right, by artist Catherine Boyd. While some of her pieces make use of brighter colors, such as the orange Chicklettes necklace, everything she does still has a certain grace and sophistication about it.

For all you animal lovers, there’s even an Etsy seller who specializes in glasswork featuring man’s best friend: Frums Glass Menagerie. They’ve got pins, necklaces and earrings picturing just about every type of dog you can think of.

I couldn’t possibly begin to mention every talented artist on Etsy who creates beautiful jewelry from fused glass. You can find these designers and more by searching for “fused glass” via Etsy’s own search function.
