Surge: New Orleans on High Ground

Surge: New Orleans on High GroundFor the past several months, my friend Heather MacFarlane of Unique Products and the New Orleans Craft Mafia has been working with the New Orleans venue and gallery, 3 Ring Circus Productions, to help bring to life Surge: New Orleans on High Ground.

Surge is a two-month long multi-media exhibition which includes more than 150 visual artists and filmmakers from New Orleans (both those living here currently and artists who are still displaced). The show, which is taking place in Brooklyn, NY at the Brooklyn Lyceum, also features the NOLA Art Mart, a retail shop consisting of crafts, fashion, and artwork by New Orleanians.

The exhibition will run from August 29 until November 1, with a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, September 16. The VIP Ball from 6 to 9 pm will feature James Andrews & Claire de Lune of the Storyville Starlettes, as well as other New Orleans artists. Admission for the VIP Ball will be $100 and advanced tickets can be purchased on the Brooklyn Lyceum website. Jeremy Lyons & The Deltabilly Boys will also perform after 9 pm, when tickets go down to $10.

Hours of the Brooklyn Lyceum to view the exhibit will be Monday through Friday, 7am to 1pm and Saturday & Sunday 10am to 2pm, as well as by appointment. The film festival schedule is available here; the Surge film fest will include Hexing A Hurricane, as well as films by Penguin Productions and tons of other local filmmakers.

If you’re in the NYC area, I highly encourage you to check out this unique mult-media exhibit and support New Orleans-based artists!
