Inc.com recently released their list of the top 50 environmentally friendly businesses. The list includes businesses you might already be familiar with, such as organic energy bar creators Clif Bar and the green household products company Seventh Generation. There are also plenty of businesses on the list that you’ve probably never heard of, and the businesses are diverse as microbreweries and burger joints, green energy producers and internet service providers.
And just why should you care about supporting businesses who care just as much about the Earth as they do their bottom line? A series of shocking reports during the last few weeks over the sad state of environmental affairs might persuade you.
A bi-annual report released last week by the World Wildlife Federation shows that the world’s ecosystems could face a large-scale collapse by 2050 if human consumption continues at its current pace. Another report by experts on aquatic ecosystems predicts that 60% of the world’s coral reefs could be gone by 2030.

This is our lifetime, not our grandchildren’s, that we’re talking about. The time to act is now, if there’s any hope of reducing our environmental impact and securing our future. One of the first and most basic steps is to become more aware of the products you buy, including how they were made, how far they had to travel to get into your hands, and how much waste was created in that process. The power to act is in all of our hands.
