I recently got a fabulous pair of handcrafted shoes from Annie at Mohop. Annie makes each pair of shoes by hand in her Chicago studio, crafting a shoe base from Finnish birch wood and rubber soles made from recycled tires. Each shoe has a beautiful image on the footbed, all original designs by Annie that she screenprints herself and then seals off with a veneer finish. Not to mention the fact that she is always really careful to use the most environmentally friendly materials possible when creating these masterpieces.
The really cool thing about Mohop shoes is how totally customizable they are. Here’s a picture of me wearing my new shoes. These were the only ribbons I had around, but once I find some more ribbons, I’ll have a million different ways to wear the shoes. In the Mohop gallery you can see just some of the many creative ways to wear these shoes.
Not only that, but you also get to choose from three different heel heights (I have the high heel), and you get to pick the image you want on the base of the shoe. There are even different footbed shapes: rounded, squared, or pointy toe shapes are all available, so there’s something for everyone.
You may hear “wooden shoes” and think they must be uncomfortable, but so far I’ve actually found them to be very comfortable. I just need to get more ribbons and experiment with new styles, and I’ll be set. I can’t wait until it warms up again so I can wear these babies out of the house.

my sis was trying some on at my shop yesterday! they’re the best shoes — i feel like a geisha when i wear mine…
How lovely! They’re really nice little shoes. I almost wish they had a bit of a wedge heel… it seems like they would in the picture, and that might be really cute…
I have two pairs of these shoes and LOVE them!!! I have about 8 pairs of ribbons…so it is like having 8 different pairs of shoes!
