I just realized I’ve been tagged by Ayana, who writes one of my favorite blogs, Nolé Style and Beauty Indulgence. She tagged me on the “Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me” meme that’s been circulating around lately. I’m normally not much of one for memes, but since it’s the weekend and this one is certainly more interesting than goofy quiz results, and who am I to deny it when I’ve been tagged?
1. I started getting grey hair when I was about 12 or 13. Both of my parents were prematurely grey, and I recently stopped dying my hair and started letting the grey grow out. I’ve got so much that I now have a grey streak in the front! (I’m only 23.)
2. When I was little I wanted to be a marine biologist, and I wanted to specialize in studying river dolphins.
I was unbelievably saddened by the recent news of the Yangtze river dolphin extinction.
3. I’m a Shakespeare fanatic. I participated in the intern program for three summers in a row at the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane.
4. Anyone who knows me in real life probably already knows this, but I’ve had a HUGE crush on Jeff Goldblum since I was 13.
5. I never graduated high school. I left around the middle of my junior year and got my GED. Then I started community college early, and after doing that for year moved on to Loyola University here in New Orleans where I graduated with a 3.8 GPA.
I’m tagging Jen from Indie Fixx, Liana of Mixed Plate, Betty from She’s a Betty, and whoever else wants to participate!
P.S. In other news, check out the St. Valentine’s Day Giveaway that the D.C. Craft Mafia is doing right now. You could win a whole bunch of goodies handmade by their members, and entering is as easy as signing up for their mailing list by February 9th!

Great blog ! Are you interesting in a link exchange with my blog ?
Jen, the Truman Capote thing is too cool!
Marina, thanks! I’ll add your blog to my links list.
Got your comment! Actually, it was your unconventional high school/college path that made me think of my experience.
Personally, I was just tired of school–I wanted to travel, meet nice boys (it was lean pickings at my high school), & do things that mattered in the real world. Still working on those =).
Hello Mallory, thanks for dropping by on AlleNation and leaving your feedback, I love getting it.
I found point 1 and 5 the most interesting by the way.
Cheers,
Allen.H
Betty – it was pretty much the same for me. I just got bored and felt like I wasn’t learning anything new, and because of the backwards way my school system was, they wouldn’t let me skip ahead and take senior level classes as a junior. So I just stopped and started taking college level classes instead.
Allen – same to you, thanks for stopping by here! Best of luck with your own blog, I’m really impressed by how much you’ve already accomplished.
We went out into the Mekong in Cambodia to see the river dolphins, but they eluded us…
GET. OUT. I’ve had a huge crush on Jeff Goldbloom since *I* was like 13. Him and, even more so, Robert Downey Junior. High five.
Love this blog by the way. Del.icio.us-ing it right now, because it’s delicious. Linking to it too, soon as I add a links section.
What is this ‘tagging’ you’re all talking aboot?
Hi, Miss Malaprop. I’m here via the Carnival of Ethics, Values, and Personal Finance. I love your blog so far.
I had a similar fast-track path out of high school and into college. In my case, it was spurred by my parents getting divorced. I never went back to high school after 10th grade. As soon as I turned 17, I took the GED and enrolled in college. Man, was it ever a shock to graduate at age 20 and realize I was supposed to supporty myself now.
Oh, The Joys: I’m sad to hear that. I’ve never seen river dolphins in person, and I’d be super bummed if I had the chance to try to see some up close and they were nowhere to be found.
Brooke: Thanks so much! Hehe, I love running into other people who are Goldblum fans. And as far as “tagging” goes, for this post it’s basically like “tag, you’re it” on the school yard…Tagging other bloggers to post 5 things about themselves.
Tiredbuthappy: Thanks! It’s weird, since I’ve posted this more and more people are coming out of the woodwork with stories of their alternate educational choices. I don’t feel like my story is quite so uncommon now as I once thought!
