Fair Industry Clothing & Accessories

This is pretty cool, I just discovered yet another great woman-owned online boutique via the Bust Shop.

Fair Industry was was founded by designer Lauren Markley in 2004. Inspired by her time spent in Japan, she wanted to create a fashionable clothing line that was produced in a fair and sustainable manner.

Lauren’s original clothing line is made by Artisan Hut, an organization in Bangladesh that supports textile artisans who were previously facing unemployment due to the mechanization of the garment industry. The accessories found at Fair Industry are handmade in workshops in Mombasa, Kenya that were founded to create jobs for people with physical disabilities.

The stuff here is extremely affordable, proving that just because it’s made in a sustainable way doesn’t mean it has to be super expensive. This handwoven cotton blouse, for example, is only $25. And there is currently some stuff on sale that’s even cheaper!
