I’m sure I’m probably the last person to mention this, but I wanted to post about it for anyone who might not have heard yet. A super special person in the indie craft world, Alison Gordon of WonderlandQ (she also helps organize Bazaar Bizarre and The Sampler), recently had an unexpected major medical emergency and had to undergo surgery. Like most of us starving artist types, Alison doesn’t have health insurance, so once again the indie craft community has come together to help out a fellow crafter.
Some of her friends have organized a temporary Etsy shop called Wonderland Retreat in order to raise funds to help relieve some of the costs related to Alison’s surgery. They’ve already sold over 160 donated handmade items and raised over $2000 so far which will go toward her medical bills.
If you’d like to help, you can purchase something from the shop like this cute wallet made from a vintage obi, or make a direct donation via PayPal (send PayPal donations to info [AT] auroraseven.com). One of the things I love most about the indie craft community is how kind and giving everyone is. No matter what it is, people are willing to pitch in and help out!
Speaking of giving, just a quick reminder that the current MissMalaprop charity fundraiser is coming to a close. If you want to donate to The Green Project (a really amazing organization here in New Orleans that recycles old building materials), you can give money via the Firstgiving page. If you do, be sure to shoot me an email (mallory [AT] missmalaprop.com) and let me know that you donated and I’ll add you to the drawing for the prize package full of handmade goodies (some of which is pictured here). The winner will be drawn at random at the end of this month.
You can also donate to The Green Project via a different fundraiser put together by a former New Orleans resident over at ChipIn — donate to that fundraiser for a chance to win a reusable shopping bag full of eco-friendly goodies!
