Trashion + Wearable Art Events

by MissMalaprop on June 7, 2007

There are a lot of really cool events coming up over the next few months, some of which I’ll be participating in. First off, I’m really excited about making my first trip to visit the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn to participate in the Trashion street team’s trunk show on Friday, July 27th (the day before my birthday!).

What is Trashion you may ask? Trash + Fashion = Trashion. It’s turning one man’s trash into another man’s treasure…it’s upcycling, making something new and beautiful out of what was once old and ugly. Some of our members will be there in person, some in spirit, but we’ll have a great representation of what Trashion is all about. Plus we’ll be giving away some awesome goodie bags to the early bird attendees. So mark your calendars now!

Another event I’ll be doing later this month, here in New Orleans, is the Worn Again Fashion Show. It will be held at The Green Project on June 30th and proceeds will benefit Recycle for the Arts. Basically each designer will get a box full of random old clothes and other materials and will have two weeks to create something new and fabulous from it! It’s like a total Project Runway challenge! There’s still time to participate; just email wornagain[AT]gmail.com for more info.uncommonthread.jpg

Lastly, if you’re into wearable art there’s another event that will be going on in Baton Rouge this October called Uncommon Thread. Artists and designers from anywhere can participate, and there are three paid prizes. It sounds like a really awesome event. Check out the call for entries on their website to learn more.

Mallory – I will have to catch up with you when you are in Brooklyn at Etsy Labs to participate in the Trashion street team’s trunk show. That sounds like fun. Also, my sister Wendy is in Baton Rouge and will check out the Uncommon Thread. Love you blog – Deb
