Etsy Bloggers Carnival FAQ

To find out more about the Etsy Bloggers Carnival, you can also check out co-organizer Stormy’s Blog Carnival page.

What exactly IS a Blog Carnival?

A blog carnival is basically a round up of links to posts submitted by different bloggers on a specific topic. It’s a great way to build traffic to your own blog and to find other blogs that you might be interested in. You can find out more here.

What is the Etsy Bloggers Carnival?

The Etsy Bloggers Street Team hosts a weekly Carnival. Each week a different member of the team picks an Etsy-related theme for the group to write about and that member hosts the Carnival for that week.

For example, for the first ever Carnival, we chose to write about our craft studios and workspaces. Everyone who wanted to participate blogged about that topic during the week, and then submitted their posts to the Carnival. The following Monday, I posted a Carnival, full of links to the different posts from group members about their craft studios.

See that post for an example of how this Carnival works.

How do I submit my posts to the Etsy Bloggers Carnival each week?

Go here: http://blogcarnival.com/bc/submit_1992.html

Click the link above and you’ll be prompted to enter a couple of pieces of info, like the link to your post for the week (the permalink for the individual post, not the main link for your entire blog), your name, email address (which will not be posted publicly) & any comments you have about your post that should be included in the Blog Carnival.

This info will then be forwarded to the host for that week, who will post the links in the Carnival.

*Please note: only members of the Etsy Bloggers Street Team should submit their posts to this carnival. Info about the street team and membership requirements can be found here.

How do I sign up to host the Etsy Bloggers Carnival?

To add yourself to the list of Etsy Bloggers Carnival hosts please email our co-organizer Stormy at stormy [!at] stormydesigns.biz or contact her via Etsy, and include the following information:

the date you’d like to host
your email address (will not be shown publicly)
your blog address
your chosen theme/topic for your week

What does hosting entail?

What happens is during the week you are hosting, you’ll receive all of the submissions for that week. Each submission will come to you as a separate email and near the bottom of each email there is some HTML code with the links for each submission.

There’s also an “Instacarnival” code available through the Blog Carnival site, which I think is available only to me as the maintainer of the carnival but I can forward you that code if you’d like, probably sometime on Sunday evening for the week you’re hosting. Just let us know and we can send it to you as a text file.

When I hosted the first Etsy Bloggers Carnival, I grabbed some pictures and tried to make the Carnival flow better by introducing some of the posts, but you can also simply use the HTML that will be sent you to post. This will probably make more sense once you start receiving submissions. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to help.

*Because the Blog Carnival website is open to everyone, you may occasionally receive submissions that are not from Etsy Bloggers Street Team members. These submissions may be off-topic or considered spam. If that is the case, you do not have to include these submissions in your Carnival post. All on-topic submissions should be included.

I recommend that during the week you’re hosting, you make a post in the Etsy forums and on the Etsy Bloggers message boards to remind everyone about the carnival and what the current theme is. Happy hosting!
