There’s a new blog on the block called Tiny Choices. I can’t remember where I first read about it, but I’ve gotta say, I’m really digging it so far. Written by friends Karina Tipton and Jenn Sturiale, Tiny Choices tackles just that: the topic of those little choices you choose to make in your every day life that can have a big impact. Sort of like what I wrote about back in January.
The first anniversary of MissMalaprop is coming up in a couple of weeks, and it’s had me thinking. I think that writing this blog has definitely helped to increase my awareness of those little choices and has changed some of the ways in which I consume. I’ve been trying to consume less, in general, and where possible switch to reusable alternatives. A recent post on Tiny Choices was about cloth napkins instead of the disposable paper kind. This is something I’ve implemented, though I need to get better about bringing along my own reusables with me when I’m out and about. I’ve also switched to reusables of the feminine variety, if you get my drift, which I’ve found to be one of the most positive personal changes I’ve made in the last year. SO much more comfortable and cheaper in the long run too!
What are some tiny choices you’ve made in your every day life?

Congrats on your anniversary. Ours is tomorrow, and we’re going to try to celebrate all week. Like you, I’ve definitely found that writing the blog has helped me make tons of tiny choices in the last year.
- Unplugging phone chargers
- Turning off my computer every night
- Reusing a hand towel instead of paper napkins
- Throwing my vegetable peeling in the flowerbed
- Refilling water bottles repeatedly
Thanks for the link to this site. I may have to follow your lead!
Cool site. I’m adding it to my reading list.
I’ve got The Keeper and have been using it for about four years now. I’ve always been concerned about the environment, or more correctly, opposed to waste. So, many good tiny choices have become habit for me and I don’t even think about them anymore, unless I see someone else doing the opposite.
Hm, what else? I use compact fluorescents. I don’t idle my car for more than ten seconds. I reuse things and make crafts out of “junk”. I’ve been trying to accumulate less stuff overall. I’ve switched my music buying almost entirely to digial music. I read blogs about things we can do to help the environment and try to follow their advice.
A few months ago I bought reusable grocery bags and its amazing to no longer have those plastic bags accumulate! The shopping bags are larger, studier, and have great handles, so lugging in the groceries is also a much better experience! A few years ago I started being very conscious about using dishtowels instead of paper towels. I used to use a lot, I know still have a roll in the kitchen “just in case” and have had it there for the entire year so far. What a diffirence two small things did to reduce waste!
hello, new reader, excellent site suggestion. i’ve actually just made a personal resolution to buy only used or handmade clothes, or clothing that is verifiably made sustainably. have you ever visited blendapparel.com? it has a selection of tshirts made from bamboo. excellent graphics to boot. so far i’ve acquired the “spread the wealth” design and am lusting after “everything is ok” and “i’mperfect.”
anyway, have added a link to miss malaprop from my shiny new blog on clothes and my academic obsessions. feel free to stop by!
I love this sharing what we know. Thanks for all the simple but great ideas.
