A couple days ago I got wind that Anthony Bourdain, host of No Reservations — one of my favorite shows, is in town. I’d heard he was supposed to be filming for the show at a weekly open mike night, so my boy and I headed there to check it out. We got to say hello and shook his hand and we tried to convince him & his crew to come to some of the bars in the French Quarter where we usually hang out. They were planning to avoid the Quarter entirely (too clichéd for a travel show I guess), but I think maybe we convinced them that there are still parts of the Quarter that are cool, completely un-touristy and not clichéd at all. They’re in town til Monday, so maybe they’ll take our advice.
I realize that this little antedote is completely off-topic compared to what I usually write about here. But I’ve been so excited that I just had to share! AND to bring it back around to what I usually write about, I thought I’d point out a cool kitchen related find I saw mentioned on Etsy’s Storque yesterday (y’know, since Bourdain is a chef):

Pretty awesome, no?

Anthony Bourdain is my Other Husband, next to Henry Rollins (who I’d probably get annoyed with very, very quickly)
Kudos for meeting him! My hubby and I met Alton Brown and were mildly giggly schoolgirls, but he was very nice and friendly.
I’m totally, totally jealous!
I can’t wait to watch the episode to see where he goes. I would love to eat dinner with this man.
Hahaha, Alison…that’s actually really funny because when I heard he was in town I was going around saying how we had to go meet my “other boyfriend”. And then when we got to the club where he was I told my boyfriend he had to do the talking…so he goes outside, walks up to him and says “Hi, my name is Dave, we love your show. This is my girlfriend Mallory, you’re her other boyfriend.” It was awesome. The look on his face was pretty priceless.
Cinnamon, I can’t wait to see where he went either! We never saw them on Decatur street, so I don’t think they took our advice.
i just had to say, i thought those cups were so darn cute!
ditto. those mugs are awesome. although, i’d be a little worried that the handles would snap off while i was sipping my joe. too cool, i’d risk it.
