Trashy Diva, my absolute favorite store for over 10 years now, and a company I have had the pleasure of working for in the past, has just been ripped off by one of their wholesale clients. The entire incident makes me absolutely livid. I get so upset seeing indie designers ripped off by big corporations, but when it’s one small business ripping off another, to me that seems even worse. Who raises these people, really?

You can read the full story on Trashy Diva’s Myspace or see the post I wrote about it for Styledash. Please help spread the word, particularly if you have a fashion or design related blog. This is an issue that affects all independent designers. I’ve heard of indies ripping off other indies on Etsy, and I just heard about this screwed up incident right after I got the word of the Trashy Diva rip-off. The whole thing just makes me sick.

Thanks for posting about this, Mallory. I don’t visit the web shop very often so I probably would have missed this. But because of your post, I have two more Trashy Diva dresses to add to my growing collection and a blog post about this as well to get more attention about this.

I’m just happy to help get the word out. I couldn’t believe it when my old manager called to let me know about it. I hate to see it happy to anyone, and I don’t understand why anyone would possibly think that this is an acceptable thing to do in the first place. It’s theft, pure and simple.

Urgh, things like that make me so angry!

I actually got Katie at Unique-Vintage.com on the phone. She seems agitated when I inquired about the source of the dress’ design and said “I’m not interested in talking to you.”

Omission can say a lot. There’s a post coming in a day or two about this on HumidCity.com

Wow. This is just sad and disheartening. I hope that everyone ends up in the right that deserves credit.

I posted about it on indiestylefile.com, hopefully we can bring to this more people’s attention.

A horrible way to treat talented, creative - and honest and hardworking - people. It is sad, pathetic and wrong. I stumbled across your post and have since followed your links and the issue, thanks for the information. It is a concern for all designers.

Hi I do not have a website. I am a beginning designer
of some special articles of clothing for the physically challenged.
I also design some wood crafts and I know what you
mean by getting ripped off. My prayers are with you.
I am searching for help with the items I am designing. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Something to say?
