FoodServiceWarehouse.com, a great online resource for commercial kitchens looking to go green, is currently sponsoring a fabulous contest to help commercial kitchens slash their energy costs, conserve water and reduce their environmental impact. They’re giving away a green commercial kitchen worth up to $40,000 to one qualifying kitchen. I’m definitely going to let my pastry chef sister know about this one!
If you’re in the restaurant industry and want to help make your workplace more eco-friendly, you should check out their site. FoodServiceWarehouse.com offers an industry leading certification program aimed at helping commercial kitchens cope with the costs and complexities of going green. The program features educational resources, rewards and the industry’s only free certification process, modeled after, and fulfilling credits for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
Eco-Libris and Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing have partnered up for a contest celebrating the launch of the first eco-friendly line of children’s storybooks, Little Green Books. All of the books are printed on 100% recycled materials, and they explore environmental themes in ways that kids can understand.
Kids between the ages of 5-10 are invited to share their own experiences and ideas in helping to save planet Earth. Stories can be submitted via a downloadable entry form until December 1, 2008 (the form and more info are available at the “I CAN SAVE THE EARTH!” Sweepstakes website). Prizes will include free copies of the new Little Green Books and trees that will be planted in developing countries by Eco-Libris on the winning children’s behalf.
Jena over at Modish made a great post yesterday with her tips on how to approach blogs (and get them to write about you!). I totally agree with pretty much everything she said. If you’re a crafty entrepreneur, I highly recommend her Modish Marketing series… it’s chocked full of great information.
I also found this really interesting true or false quiz game called the Smart Cart Quiz… it’s all about consumerism and it’s kind of mind-blowing really. I mean, I had an idea about a lot of the stuff mentioned, but seeing the numbers broken down is really astonishing. Take this question for example:
Q: In 2006, U.S. teens spent $28 Million on products advertised on TV.
A: False, they actually spent $28 Billion – almost 100 times what the US
spent on HIV/AIDS relief that year.
It’s scary, huh? Knowledge is power though… I feel like the more informed I am, the more likely I am to make good choices, so I love stuff like this.
Oh yeah, speaking of giveaways, don’t forget to leave a comment and enter the Pedoodles eco-friendly children’s shoe giveaway if you haven’t already! Only two more days to enter!
