Creative Alliance of New Orleans

by MissMalaprop on December 10, 2008

This weekend I’m going to have to take a little time out from cleaning for my zombie Christmas party on Saturday to go check the Affordable Art Bazaar at The Studio at Colton School (2300 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans).

Their Kick-Off Party, which will feature music and food, is this Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 10am til 7pm. If you’re in New Orleans and can’t make it on Saturday, don’t worry because the art bazaar will be open from Saturday through Sunday, December 21, 2008, with weekday hours from 3pm – 7pm and open on weekends from noon til 5pm.

I’ve been meaning to check out The Studio at Colton School anyway… I really love everything I’ve been hearing about this space. The Studio features 78 local artists, designers, arts organizations, performers, film makers, builders and culinary artists in a facility converted from an old public school building (I used to live just a block away from here!).

They also currently have a call to artists out for their Turning the Tables project. They are inviting local artists of all disciplines to submit proposals for collaborative-based exhibitions between creative disciplines. I think this sounds amazing – having come from backgrounds in ballroom dance, theatre and craft, I love anything that can merge different types of creativity! The proposals are due Monday, December 15, 2008 and there’s a PDF here with more info or you can e-mail Natalie at natalienola [AT] gmail.com or call 504-218-4807.
