Artevist Eco-friendly T-shirt Giveaway

by MissMalaprop on February 2, 2009

Artevist Breathe teeI recently discovered Artevist, which is sort of like a Threadless for the eco-set, when founder Eric Wilson messaged me via Facebook.

If you’re already familiar with Threadless, then you’ll recognize the concept. Basically members of the community submit their original t-shirt designs, the community scores them and votes on which designs they’d like to see on a shirt, and the designs with the top scores go into production and are made available for purchase.

The difference with Artevist is that all of the designs have a message: whether about helping the environment, human rights, AIDS or cancer, the point of Artevist tees is that if you’re going to be wearing a cool t-shirt anyway, shouldn’t it say a little something about what you believe in?

Artevist Destroy and Deny t-shirtAll of the Artevist tees are either organic cotton or bamboo, and printed with PVC-free dyes. They take care to make sure that all of the shirts are created in sweatshop-free conditions in North America, and they also ensure that all of the artists are paid fairly for their work. Artevist is a member of 1% for the Planet, and they’re working towards being completely carbon neutral. You can check out more about their ethics here.

Eric was kind enough to offer up a few t-shirts so that I could check out the quality (which is excellent!) and give away a few to some lucky readers.  The tees arrived the day before we left on our recent cruise, and I couldn’t help but keep my favorite one for myself — the Destroy & Deny tee is just so soft and cozy, printed on 100% organic cotton, and the design blends in seamlessly with the tee. I absolutely love this one, and I know I’m going to be wearing it a lot in the days to come.

Artevist Tree Bicycle teeHere’s what I’ve got for you guys: a Breathe t-shirt, size women’s medium, printed on 100% organic cotton, and a Tree Bicycle t-shirt, size men’s medium, printed on 70% bamboo, 30% organic cotton. I’ve got them here, and I can tell you both are super duper soft and amazing looking — you definitely won’t be disappointed if you’re the winner of one of these tees!

All you have to do to enter to win one of these t-shirts is leave a comment on this post letting me know which tee you would prefer to win by midnight on Sunday, February 15, 2009 (Central Standard Time – go here to figure out what time that is where you are). I’ll pick two recipients at random (one for each t-shirt) from the comments and e-mail both of you to find out where to send the shirts!

Be sure to check out Artevist for more cool shirts and join the community to vote on which designs you’d like to see on a tee! Right now they are offering free shipping on the first collection (all of the t-shirts that are currently available for purchase). The spring collection of new shirts comes out in March, so act fast!

Thanks for the post! I love the site – always on the look out for affordable and responsible clothing, after all.

The Breathe t-shirt’s great. I tend to get attached to articles of clothing, and I have a feeling I would wear this shirt all the time.
