I had a lot of fun at the Alternative Media Expo on Saturday. Hi to all of the new people I met there!
Even though I told myself I wasn’t going to buy anything, I knew it was almost inevitable I’d find something I wanted, something totally unique and handmade. And boy was I right!
Directly across from where I was set up, I found the most amazing handmade leather belt bag, in red and black. (Perfect for wearing to Noisician Coalition events!) It’s modeled here by the designer, Katie Ray of Wear & Tear. I think she only has a Myspace page right now, but she’s got pictures of lots of her belts and other work there. Her and her friends had some of my favorite stuff from the Expo.
Caitlin Waugh’s work was also really cool, and she was super nice. She creates these amazing sculptural lamps, jewelry, ornaments and other pieces using metal, wood, glass and found objects. (She said she’s been considering joining the New Orleans Craft Mafia — I hope she does, because I think her work is awesome!)
There really were so many great artists and organizations there — unfortunately I stayed so busy at my own booth that I didn’t have nearly the time I would have liked to linger at each of their booths. If you want to check out more of the artists who were featured, the full list is in the March issue of Antigravity Magazine.
