Crafty Business Blogs & Eco-Marketplaces!

by MissMalaprop on March 12, 2009

A few days ago, Jena over at Modish mentioned that she had a new project in the works. Boy was I excited when I found out it was a new daily blog all about the business of creativity! I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to DIY biz and marketing and crafty entrepreneurship. I’ve been frequenting The Switchboards’ forums for years now, and I’m always on the lookout to learn more about bootstrapping and being your own boss. Check out Modish Biz Tips for archived posts from Jena’s previous marketing series on Modish as well as loads of new content related to running your own indie biz!

Another thing that got me really excited upon visiting Jena’s new blog was one of the advertisements on the side, which led me to Cosa Verde, a new marketplace bringing together designers who create products that are both handmade AND eco-friendly, which as you probably know by now is RIGHT up my alley.

Cosa Verde - marketplace for handmade eco-friendly goods

Cosa Verde isn’t actually a store itself, but rather a carefully curated portal to shops offering handmade products that are also crafted with sustainability in mind. There are lots of different ways to browse items — by product category, by sustainability category… (Is it made from repurposed materials? Is it organic?)

There’s also a fun surprise me! feature, or you can read their blog for more info on featured shops. If you browse by shops, you’ll learn more about each artist and find links to their own websites, Etsy shops, Artfire stores, or other selling venues. Apparently Cosa Verde is just a month old, but they’ve already got plenty to look at, and all of it is just awesome. It’s a really fun and easy way to find loads of handmade goods that are also good for the earth. I really wish them the best of luck and hope this site grows and grows! After all, who wouldn’t love a site that donates 10% of their listing fees directly to the charity of your choice, and plants 10 trees through Trees for the Future for every store that’s opened?

Hi Mallory! Thanks so much for mentioning the new site, I appreciate it! And glad you dig Cosa Verde, I love them too! I’m working with them on a contest/giveaway for Modish around earth day, so be on the lookout for that :)
Thanks again!

If you’re looking for eco-fashion, check out INDIE PEACE @ indiepeace.com!! The women’s line hasn’t launched just yet, but the men’s tees are awesome and unique! I plan on getting one for my dad for father’s day :)
