We’re moving into a new apartment this weekend (an amazing eco-friendly house with solar panels, tons of insulation, and a big yard to grow veggies in!), so I’ve had home products on the brain for the last few weeks. We went to a Home & Garden expo this past weekend and there was an emphasis on green building materials and other products. It got me thinking that I should really find a better alternative to the dish sponges I’ve been using… I’d love something that would last longer than those store bought dish sponges that get gross and have to be thrown away every few weeks. A quick search of Etsy brought me these beauties — eco-friendly handmade dish scrubbies that are machine washable and only $3 each!
I also really like this handmade ceramic soap dish and sponge holder. At only $12, I think it would be a perfectly affordable accompaniment to these sponges.

That is a great find. Colorful and cute.
Those are both very cool! Great find!
I have suggestion for an even greener sponge that works great. A lemon! Just add a lemon to your grocery list every week. Cut a lemon in half and use one half to wash & scrub your dishes with. Once you have finished cleaning the dishes, just put that lemon on the side of the sink and you can use it next time you go to do the dishes. The other half you can put back in the fridge and safe it for another cleaning task. Lemons are also great for cleaning the bathroom. Use half of a lemon, cutting it into a few slices. Use a slice to clean the toliet, then through it away. Use another slice for the sink, etc… Anyways just give it a try, you will be convinced.
Rebecca, what a great idea! I knew about the cleaning powers of lemons, but never thought to actually use one to scrub with!
This is my first time sharing the idea – I had thought people would think I am crazy lol. But it really works and the best part is, after you are done with your lemon that you cleaned your dishes with, you can throw it in the composter
Oh one added suggestion – It you have a dish that requires more scrubbing, add some salt on the lemon and scrub away!
