Metal for Monsters & Celebrate Green

The awesome indie jewelry line Blend Creations has teamed up with the authors of the book Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations and Traditions for the Whole Family for a pretty cool new contest, challenging fans to design their own Metal for Monsters pendants. I wrote about the Metal for Monsters line when it first came out — these pendants were created in collaboration with artists in order to raise money for UNICEF.

Blend Creations is currently accepting artwork submissions for their Make Your Own Monster for Mom Competition — the challenge is to create a new design with Mother’s Day in mind. All of the details on how to enter can be found here. All submissions will be posted in an online gallery, and the artist that receives the most votes will receive their art on a stainless steel pendant, plus a randomly chosen voter will also receive a copy of the same pendant. Both people will also be receiving copies of the book Celebrate Green!

Check out these new beautiful silk scarves designed by Jules Sherman of Yosi-girls and Yosifa-Penina (a line of super cool belts, barrettes and other accessories). She designs them using computer graphics programs and then digitally prints the designs on silk with 100% colorfast inks. Pretty cool, huh?

Another cool new set of products from one of my favorite indie designers is the range of awareness badges just created by Hayley Lau of Heidi & Seek, which feature phrases like ‘we are not sheep’, ‘eco friend’, ‘for the love of recycling’ and ‘buy ethical’. You can find out more about Hayley and her ethically made, handcrafted clothing line on her website or Etsy shop.

Also, if you’re in New Orleans and looking for something to do tonight, The Noisician Coalition is presenting The Negative 12th Night CACOPHONY BALL at One Eyed Jack’s (615 Toulouse) starting at 9pm. If you want to know what you’re getting yourself into, go watch the most recent holiday video featuring the Noise Co.
