EnviroCurtain Recycled Polyester Shower Curtain

EnviroCurtain recycled fabric shower curtainThis morning I used my brand new EnviroCurtain 100% recycled polyester shower curtain for the first time. I had been wanting to upgrade from my grubby vinyl liners for a long time, and when I knew that we were moving to a new apartment, there was no way I wanted to take those things with me.

You know that “new” smell that all of those vinyl shower curtain liners have? Yep, that’s lots of nasty chemicals you’re smelling, and when you’re standing next to one under hot running water, the whole thing is like a vaporizer, off-gassing chemicals that you’re breathing in.

EnviroCurtain shower curtain with sustainable Tagua nut buttonsThe new curtain I got can act as either a liner (which is what we’ll be using it for) or as a decorative curtain. It’s got built-in loops so you don’t need shower rod hooks, and the loops attach with these pretty buttons made from sustainable Tagua nuts.

The curtain is water repellent, and while I was a little doubtful about exactly how water repellent a fabric shower curtain could be, I was actually really pleased this morning to see the little beads of water just hanging out on top of the curtain instead of soaking through it. I’m also really glad to have a curtain that we can machine wash and dry if it starts getting gross, although it shouldn’t really get that way for a very long time, because it’s also anti-microbial. Plus, both the fabric and the curtain are made in the USA.

I put off this purchase for a long time, because they’re a little pricey for a shower curtain ($69.95 for a full size curtain), but this is one of those things that I think is definitely worth the long term investment. It will last a long time, so we won’t have to keep buying new liners every few years, and it’s WAY more healthy for us. Even my boyfriend commented about how he likes the fact that it doesn’t have that “new” smell.

You can pick up your own at HealthGoods, where they carry lots of other eco-friendly and healthy for you and your home products.

The shower curtain looks great~ I’d love to try it someday or maybe I’d try to make one by myself.
