On Friday I got to meet the lovely Crosby of PR Couture and give her a little tour of the town, including some shopping along Magazine Street. The first place we hit after lunch was GoGo Jewelry, which I discovered is now stocking lots of other indie jewelry and art labels in addition to their own fabulous line. I recognized the work of The Candy Thief and Paraphernalia there, and I fell in love with some mixed media pieces by Dolan Geiman that were hanging on the wall.
It really is a small world, because just a couple of days after I was admiring this beautiful salvaged artwork, I got an email from Dolan’s business partner and fiancé, Ali, to let me know about his work and that they will be in town for the second weekend of Jazz Fest in a couple of weeks, participating as part of the Contemporary Crafts section.

Dolan is currently based in Chicago, and originally from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He and Ali travel all over the country doing art fairs, and along the way they often find themselves scouting out wood and other salvaged materials from abandoned buildings and dumpsters. The majority of the materials that Dolan uses in his work are recycled — even his paints come from Chicago’s paint recycling center.

Dolan also offers a line of Green(er) Box Prints, that are digital reproductions of Dolan’s original artwork printed on wood with 100% VOC-free inks. I really love so much of Dolan’s work — I’d love to have a piece of my own one day. You can check out more of his work on his website or in his Etsy shop.

Thanks so much for the feature, Mallory. We cannot wait for Jazz Fest and look forward to reconnecting with folks and seeing a lot of new faces during the 2nd weekend of the festival this year. Look for our advertisement in the Jazz Fest program!
