I just discovered Apartment Therapy’s green home design blog, Re-nest, and now I’m hooked. We’ve been getting even more into both home design and gardening since we moved into a new place about a month ago, and this site is such an inspiration!
One thing that really caught my eye was this beautiful bee habitat that was featured there, which attracts non-stinging Mason bees to your garden. (And it’s made from natural bamboo AND it’s only $15 — I really want one!) The whole disappearing bee thing really scares the crap out of me, quite frankly. No more honeybees = no more pollination = no more food for us humans to eat! I’d mentioned looking into the idea of backyard beekeeping but the beau thought that might be a little extreme, especially in the city limits (I’m not sure if it’s even legal here). This habitat wouldn’t require much work on our part though, and hopefully it would attract lots of little buzzing bees to help pollinate our garden!
Another great idea I found at Re-nest? Using recycled glass soda bottles for dish soap, oil, and vinegar. We were actually just talking about find some nice bottles for our olive oil, which we buy in bulk. I really like the repurposed soda bottle idea!
