I am so totally in love with my bicycle lately. I want to marry it.
Here’s the deal: my boyfriend took my bike apart back in October to attempt to do a very sweet thing and paint and rebuild it and rivet on new parts, including a fender skirt. And he started the project, so now my bike is bright blue instead of ugly brownish-red and orange. But, as much as I love him, even I can admit what a procrastinator he is. I NEEDED my bike back together in order to get to Jazz Fest a few weeks ago though, so he brought it by Plan B – the New Orleans Community Bike Project (an absolutely amazing place by the way!) and put it back together so I could ride it again.
The boy still plans to make it the coolest art bike ever (he even wants to create decals for it because I want it to be octopus themed!), but I’m just glad I can ride it again in the mean time. I’ve been bugging him to go on evening bike rides around City Park with me, and I finally rode it to work and back today. I discovered two different community gardens I never knew existed! Riding a bike really makes you look at things differently than you do in a car or even on foot.
Anyway… I bring all of this up because my more frequent bike riding reminds me of my friend Maria of YaBettaSupaDont and her awesome handmade bike reflectors:
Every time I see her I remind her that I want a special octopus reflector of my very own!
