The search for plus size, eco-friendly fashion has been on my mind lately. Now, I am not a plus size girl myself, but I have many friends who are and I totally empathize with their search for great-looking, eco-friendly plus size clothing. You can shop Etsy and get something specially made to your measurements (which is a great option of course), but there’s not a lot out there in the way of off-the-rack plus size eco-friendly fashion.
Green Gretchen has put together a list of plus-size eco-chic options, which is where I discovered Mewv Sustainables.
Mewv offers eco-friendly fashion in sizes ranging from XS to 4X. They’ve designed their line as two separate boutiques, based on sizes XS to XL and XL to 4X, in order to offer styles that fit different body types better, although some of their dresses are available in the full range of sizes. For instance, I love this short x-back dress ($119.99), which is available in sizes XS through 3X:
Not only is each garment crafted from the finest in eco-friendly fabrics (organic cotton, bamboo, soy, tencel, and hemp), Mewv goes so far as to stay away from using zippers, hooks and buttons entirely, as there currently isn’t a truly sustainable way to manufacture metal and plastic hooks and zippers.
I absolutely love what Mewv is trying to do, and the fact that not only are they concerned about sustainability but they’re also trying to cater to all shapes and sizes! I only wish that more companies thought the same way!
