I just finished putting together a round-up of some of my old posts about what I think are some of the best green and eco-friendly products available. I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think. And if there are other products that you’re in search of that I haven’t mentioned, please let me know, and I’ll try my best to help you seek out a better alternative to traditional products!
Also, check out this recent post on the clothing menu that I contributed to called why do you buy indie? It’s a great list of reasons why shopping indie is so great and so important! If you haven’t had a taste of the clothing menu yet (forgive me for the bad pun!), you really should, because the blogger, Kristen, writes about some fabulous indie shopping finds!

After reading your post a few weeks ago, I decided to give up my vinyl shower curtain. I was having a problem with mold and mildew in the bath and I began to think the vinyl was the problem. I now only use a cloth curtain and it works perfectly. After the shower we open it back up to breathe and dry. No more mold and mildew!! I also loved the post about natural pest control. I’ve been talking to hubby about that one!! Wish me luck! I also love taking what others would throw out and turning it into something new. Your are rubbing off on me Mallory!
Yay, I’m glad to hear I’m rubbing off! The shower curtain is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made — I only wish I did it sooner!
I have been looking for eco friendly furniture for some time now and am interested in those that are created with alternative materials or without some of the finishes that contain harmful chemicals. I do find some things online but they are often very pricey, not including shipping costs. Do you have any knowledge of anywhere local to the gulf coast that sells furniture like that or a good website to check out, especially children’s furniture?
And thank you for putting together the list, they are all really great ideas!
Ashlee, I’ll have to do some more research on furniture as it’s not something I’m as familiar with unfortunately. We’ve had to shop for a few things for the new apartment we moved into recently though, and managed to find some nice bathroom furniture made from bamboo at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
One option could also be one of those unfinished furniture places — just make sure that the type of wood the furniture is made from is sustainable (mahogany = bad choice, woods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council = good choice). Then see if they can paint or stain it with a non-toxic, low VOC paint or stain, or do it yourself. Apartment Therapy has a good post on the top 10 best non-VOC, low-toxic interior paints.
thank you very much!
thanks so much for the ideas!
Hey i read your blog and got to know about various ecofriendly products that we can use everyday…
