Handmade Treats, Japanese Style

by MissMalaprop on June 5, 2009

I think maybe I’m on a little bit of a Japanese kick… First it was the amazing art of Tsumami Kanzashi that caught my eye last week, and now I’ve found a whole new world of unbelievably cool handmade goods, crafted by indie designers based in Japan.

Tokyomade is an incredible online boutique stocking tons of independent designers from Toyko and all over Japan. I think my favorite things on the site have to be these amazing one of a kind, handmade traditional Japanese tabi boots, which are made using vintage kimono and obi silks. They can be worn as seen here or folded down to show off the beautiful lining fabric. The decorative silver and gold leaf fabric is vintage and has been hand-stitched onto these babies. Tell me these boots wouldn’t turn heads and start conversations!

One of Tokyomade’s most popular brands is independent Japanese bag label B.S.E.T.C.  Designer fujiHIRO combines vintage fabrics, recycled blue jeans, wine bottle corks and other scraps to create these gorgeous handbags.

Tokyomade has so much amazing indie goodness, and if you’re a fan of Japanese street style, this is definitely the place for you!

A thousand thanks for showing me Tokyomade! I am a huge fan of Japaneses street style and design and come home full of creative inspiration after every trip I take to Japan. Those trips are not happening often these days, so now I can take a virtual trip via Tokyomade.
