Get Crafty With Your Cooking – Doodle Bread

by MissMalaprop on July 29, 2009

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes! I had a wonderful day, and I’m still recovering from our amazing dinner at the Grill Room at Windsor Court. We had some delicious artisan breads (and chive biscuits! OMG, the chive biscuits!), so a note from Rose Kane that arrived in my inbox introducing me to her company, Doodle Bread, caught my eye.

Rose is an independent designer and baker who has come up with a unique way to bake loaves of bread with different colors and shapes using all-natural colors and flavors. She runs a tiny bakery in Belfast, Ireland and recently launched her website to sell bread baking kits. She hopes they’ll inspire kids to take an interest in bread baking. I think they just might, because this is possible the most fun bread I’ve ever seen! I don’t usually write much about food, but this is just such a fun, crafty idea that I couldn’t resist!

Rose even made some American flag bread for the 4th of July recently with blueberries and raspberries in the dough, as well as this awesome “EAT” loaf. Check out recipes and more on her blog, or find the bread baking kits on her website.

What a cool idea! The last time I made bread, I was so excited because it was my first time making it from scratch in years. I made this HUGE batch of bread dough and waited hours for it to rise. Then for some reason I lifted the bowl and it slipped from my fingers, crashing to the floor and breaking into a million pieces, ruining my bread. I was so sad. This reminds me that I’d like to try again ;)
