Stunning Recycled Fashions From Newspaper and Cardboard

by MissMalaprop on August 7, 2009

You might not think that paper and cardboard could be fashionable, but some examples of creative re-purposing of these materials have been making their way around the blogosphere recently and I can’t stop thinking about them.

Hot News Shoes - ballet flats made from recycled newspaper

MissMischief tipped me off to these beautiful ballet flats made from recycled Chinese language newspapers. These upcycled beauties were designed by Colin Lin and are handcrafted by cottage industry artists in Taiwan. They have a special waterproof coating to make them durable. First mentioned over at Deconstructed Garments, these shoes are available in women’s sizes at Moxsie, a source for independent fashion.

POAPLUM at Modish

Modish recently featured these amazing necklaces and accessories by
POAPLUM that are crafted from cardboard and felt. I never, ever thought I would see cardboard of all things looking so stylish! I’m seriously in love with these pieces… if I saw someone wearing one of these necklaces on the street I would never guess the humble origins of its materials!

Also, speaking of Modish, be sure to check out the Orglamix artisan crafted mineral makeup giveaway going on now! I fell in love with some of those amazing mineral makeup eyeshadows. And don’t forget, today is the last day to enter the Envirosax reusable bag giveaway and the Third Drawer Down handkerchief giveaway from Kir DeVries!

Those shoes are amazing! I love that artists/crafters these day are practically scientists coming up with ways to recycle repurpose! Well done!
