3rd Thursdays on Oak Street & Handmade Nation

This week brings the premiere of two events here in New Orleans — the first 3rd Thursday on Oak Street block party and the New Orleans debut of Handmade Nation!

3rd Thursdays on Oak Street New Orleans

3rd Thursday on Oak Street will be a monthly block party, and it kicks off this Thursday, September 17 from 4-8pm. There will be live music, drinks, artists & food. These are some of the same people that bring us events like the Po-boy Fest, so it’s sure to be a blast!

My friends Chris from Skip N’ Whistle and Emily from Sweet Olive Soap Works are helping out with this event. If you live in New Orleans, you should definitely stop by Skip N’ Whistle at 8123 Oak Street if you haven’t already — it’s such a cute shop! I’m actually pretty jealous of what Chris and his girlfriend Anne have done with the place — it’s very reminiscent in some ways of my own dream boutique! Some day…

AND… this Friday evening Handmade Nation is finally here! The free screening of the documentary film about the indie craft scene will be accompanied by a marketplace featuring local craft groups, including the New Orleans Craft Mafia, Handmade Louisiana, Krewe do Craft and more!

It all happens Friday, September 18th, 2009 from 6-9pm at Delgado Community College, City Park campus, on the second floor of the Delgado Student Life Center. (That’s at the back part of Delgado’s City Park campus, off Navarre Avenue. It’s Building 11 on this map.) Ample free parking will also be available in the nearby parking lot off Navarre Avenue by the former WYES TV studio. Check out the Handmade Nation film trailer if you haven’t already to get a taste of what the film is all about!
