Recycle Your Old Clothes Into Your Dog’s Bed With Molly Mutt Dog Duvets!

by MissMalaprop on October 27, 2009

My friend Fae tipped me off to these awesome dog duvets by Molly Mutt. She just ordered one for her dog, and she’s planning to fill it with some ripped up old bedding that she already has.

Molly Mutt dog duvets roboto dogsI think these are pretty brilliant. When we moved last spring, I very reluctantly threw away my dog’s old bed, because it was covered with mildew and those giant pillow type beds are nearly impossible to properly wash. The creator of Molly Mutt encountered a similar problem dealing with her 3 hairy dogs and their beds, and she created these dog duvets to solve the problem!

The duvets come in a variety of styles and sizes, and you can purchase them in a kit which includes a “stuff sack” — that’s the zippered sack that you can use to fill up the dog bed with all sorts of unwanted clothes, old towels or stuffed animals and whatever unwanted fabric you have lying around your house already. It keeps all of that old fabric out of the landfills, and it’s loads easier to wash than a giant pillow shaped dog bed.

These are really brilliant. I always feel guilty with old underwear, ridiculously torn shirts, etc. about just tossing them, when I know that I can’t donate them either. This is so brilliant though– makes me wish I had a dog even more!

Brilliant! I must have one. This solves a dilemma I was having just today.

These are such a great idea. I have four dogs, and we tried commercial dog beds and found them impossible to keep clean. The dogs drooled on them and all kinds of things so of course they had to be washed. But on washing, they would fall apart because they were made cheaply, and stuffed with cheap stuffing. I really hope I can try some of these out in the near future because I love that you can wash both the outside and the inside if you want to… or stuff it with new stuff if necessary.

brilliant…i had been making my boxer 2-3 beds a year out of polar fleece and the non-clumping stuffing, but after 3-4 washes, they always end up needing to be replaced. it never occurred to me to make the covers zippable and fill them with old clothes. can’t wait to modify the next one!
