I was recently contacted by the people at Effie’s Heart, a great little vintage inspired indie clothing line based in the San Francisco Bay area. When they offered me a piece from their collection to review, and when I took a look around their website, it was hard for me to resist their offer!
Owner and designer Kimo was inspired by her Aunt Effie, whom she never met but who her mother told her stories about when she was a child:
“My mother was very poor in Tulsa Oklahoma during her youth in the 1950’s. My Aunt Effie was my mother’s salvation during her rough child hood. Aunt Effie was loving, creative, and fun. She had a great sense of style and never left the house without red lipstick and being dressed to the nines. She helped my mother and my mother’s sisters make crafts and sell them to make extra money for the family. My Aunt Effie played the guitar and inspired my mother to sing. I named the line after my Aunt Effie because I want my clothing to represent what my Aunt Effie represented to her family and friends: good times, good fun, living life to it’s fullest, and encouragement. When I’m designing I make sure that the clothing and accessories fit this criteria by creating unique, comfortable, fun clothing, that make you feel confident and beautiful.”
Effie’s Heart definitely embodies this spirit. The pieces are vintage inspired with a touch of feminine sophistication, but they’re definitely for the modern girl. Crafted in sleek silhouettes out of comfy materials like pima cotton, spandex and silk, these are pieces that can add that extra something-something to your everyday wear.
The piece I ended up picking, the Bella Hoodie, is the perfect example of this. Ever since it arrived in the mail the other day, I just don’t want to take it off. It’s super comfy, but it has these great details like these poufy Victorian inspired sleeves and pocket button detail, and I love that it’s a longer tunic length than a normal hoodie.
Honestly, it was really hard to choose which piece I wanted though. I was also eying the Bicycle Capris and the Riding Tights. They sent along their catalog with looks from the Spring 2010 collection, and there are plenty of super cute pieces on their way this spring!
Effie’s Heart is available in XS – XL, and I found that the hoodie I got runs pretty true to size, as opposed to some of the crazy small sizing that seems to be going around these days. All of the stuff on their site is so cute, and if every piece is the quality of what I got (and I’m guessing that it is), it’s worth every penny! (But really, everything is very affordably priced already!)

I know, the Bicycle Capris are the cutest! I had a tough time choosing between those and the hoodie, but I’m obsessed with the hoodie now!
