Friday Links

by MissMalaprop on February 19, 2010

I’m sick. Mardi Gras wore me out and something nasty is going around. So… I bring you links to other bits of inspiration!

The fab folks from Frank & Faith Ethical Fashion recently let me know via Twitter about their weekly Friday Fiver madness sale. For 1 hour each week (Fridays at 4:30-5:30 pm GMT… I think that’s 10:30 am my time?) they sell 1 item for only £5. What a steal from this amazing UK based line of socially conscious, eco-friendly clothing!

Deanna of art blog Ululating Undulating Ungulate (try saying that 3 times fast!) recently posted in response to my handmade craft shopping parties, and she just let me know that she’s started an art directory on her site. She’s having an introductory special, “buy one listing, get another free”. It’s $9 a year to get listed, and you can join the directory here.

Bridge House, a local non-profit that offers substance abuse treatment for those who are turned away and cannot afford services elsewhere, is hosting their first ever Recycled Fashion Show on Friday, February 26, from 8pm – 11pm at The Howlin’ Wolf, 907 S. Peters Street. I donated the outfit pictured above that I made for the 2008 Worn Again fashion show to the upcoming show, which is a fundraiser for this great organization.

The New Orleans Craft Mafia will once again be sponsoring the Alternative Media Expo, presented by Antigravity Magazine.  THE ALTERNATIVE MEDIA EXPO ’10 is scheduled for Saturday, April 17th from noon-6pm at the warehouse in the Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA), and will feature tons of exhibitors with comics, ‘zines, fashion, crafts, music, film, design, community activism and much more!

We always put together some awesome swag bags, which will be given away to the first 100 paid attendees through the doors.  These reusable shopping bags will be filled with freebies and product samples from various indie businesses. These bags present a great opportunity to get the word out about your business, band, or organization. Find more information on contributing to the swag bags here, or email me: mallory [!AT] neworleanscraftmafia.com
