Recycling is for Lovers, InvadeNOLA and other Friday Links

by MissMalaprop on March 26, 2010

I saw this posted last night on Facebook… Apparently at The Green Project’s recent Salvations fundraiser (which I mentioned here) the Dear New Orleans project asked attendees the questions “Why did you go green?” and “What would you like to see in a Green New Orleans?”. I love this idea and looking through all of the resulting pictures on Flickr was fun.

InvadeNOLA, a a biweekly online magazine and blog written by and for 18-30 year olds, is looking for some help to expand its coverage and reach a wider audience. InvadeNOLA creator Justin Shiels plans to start publishing weekly issues and promoting more one-of-a-kind cultural events in New Orleans, like the recent “Son of Rambo Indie Dance Party” IF he can raise enough funds to pay writers for a full 5 months of content by his goal deadline of April 5. Shiels has started a Kickstarter fund to solicit support for InvadeNOLA, so that he can properly pay writers for their talent. You can pitch in by pledging as little as $1, but kick in a little extra and you might just get something in return. Pledge $35 or more and get a Curious Tribe tshirt and a hand written thank you note, pledge $75 or more and in addition to the above, get a copy of the InvadeNOLA Volume 1 printed book with a personal note from the editor. All donors will also receive a shout-out in a special section of the site and a digital mixtape. Check out the InvadeNOLA site, and if you like what Justin and his team are doing, think about helping them reach their goal!
