$5 Off Feelgoodz Flip-Flops, plus Indie Biz Chicks Links

by MissMalaprop on August 15, 2010

Yesterday I noticed some news spreading around Facebook that my friend Kyle Berner, founder of Feelgoodz eco-friendly flip-flops, was in a bit of a bind due to the recently Gulf oil spill. I’ve mentioned Feelgoodz here on Miss Malaprop before, here and here; they’re a great local company based here in New Orleans, and Kyle is a really nice guy.

Apparently they had a huge order (10,000 flip flops!) en route to the U.S. from Thailand, where these all-natural rubber flip-flops are made, when the cargo shipment got stuck at a port in the Bahamas because everything was being re-routed because of the oil spill. These flip-flops were supposed to be delivered to Whole Foods stores across the country in time for summer, but they never made it in time, and now Whole Foods in most places are already switching out their stock for fall. You can read the full story at Change.org, but basically because of this whole situation Feelgoodz needs to sell those 10,000 pairs of flip-flops ASAP in order to repay a loan by August 18!

I contacted Kyle to see what I could do to help. He has graciously offered Miss Malaprop readers a special coupon code, MALAPROP, for $5 off PLUS $5 flat rate shipping on all orders at the Feelgoodz online store. (No expiration, no limit!) I have friends who have Feelgoodz flops, and they swear by them, and have told me they’re the most comfortable flip-flops they own. So if you’re in the market for some flip-flops, check ‘em out!

In other news, yesterday I also whipped up some customized one-of-a-kind fleur de lis guitar straps for my friend Aaron’s new French Quarter shop, The Guitar Bar! I think they turned out pretty cool, and these are going to be exclusive to his new shop. The Guitar Bar not only sells guitars and related equipment, but they also do repairs and offer music lessons (they do more than just guitars), and they’re open late for all you downtown musicians. If you’re in New Orleans, stop by and tell him I sent you – the shop is at 1205 Decatur Street.

And now, my weekly Indie Biz Chicks link round-up:

Designed by RJ is on a roll – last week I mentioned how she always posts the most delicious looking recipes, complete with pictures of her concoctions, and this week she turned out another doozy: Seasonal Fruit Pie, packed with nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums and blueberries. Sounds amazing!

Chrissy from Indie Biz Chicks always tells it like it is, and she recently went to the BlogHer10 conference. She posted her reaction to the event and to reviews by other attendees in her post If You Don’t Like It, Change It!

Jen Kiaba recently posted a link to some Photography Tips for Shooting in Full Sun. Whether you’re a professional or amateur photographer, or you’re trying to brush up on your photo skills for online selling, Jen always has great tips and links for making your photos look amazing!
