My mom, my sister and I just got back home very late Wednesday night from our week-long trip to western Ireland! It was our Christmas surprise to our mom to take her to Ireland for the very first time! She does SO much for everyone else, and never puts herself first. When we learned late last summer that she would be slowly going blind over the next few years, I knew I had to do something, and fast, before it was too late. So my sister and I hatched a plot to make this trip happen!
I booked a 6 night tour of western Ireland through Authentic Ireland, with 4 nights in Killarney and 2 nights in Adare. We flew in and out of Shannon airport, and had a rental car, so we got to explore all of the sights!
This is the view of Torc Waterfall in Killarney National Park. It was one of my favorite places that we visited!
On our second day, we took a bus tour around the Ring of Kerry.
We had a bit of an unexpected adventure at Priest’s Leap! You can read all about it here.
After our adventure, we made our way to Cork. It was a bustling Saturday afternoon, and we got to check out The English Market, and stumbled upon this great little weekly indie craft fair, The Fair Alternative! Obviously, this was one of my favorite magical moments in Ireland, discovering an art market similar to what I do on a regular basis. My sister and I picked up some gifts from local Cork artists here, including an R2-D2 knit cap and a sock monkey baby knit cap by Deirdre of Ditzy Knitz.
The next day we went to Dingle. It was probably my favorite town that we visited. If I ever go back, I would love to stay overnight here!
On our last day we visited the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and the Poulnabrone Portal Tomb. It was eery, other-worldly and totally magical. Plus we got stuck behind a cow in the middle of the road for a bit on our way there!
I’ve written up 3 more pages all about our travels, plus I uploaded all of my pictures from our visit to Flickr. Check out everything below:
