David premiering his new Han Solo costume, and me as Darth, with a little help from Blackmilk.
For the 3rd year in a row, we spent Labor Day weekend in Atlanta for Dragon*Con. It was a lot of fun as always, though somehow I managed to lose my camera’s lens cap on only our second day in town, so I have fewer pictures than in previous years! (With all of the drinking, costumes, and maddening crowds, I decided to leave my camera back in the room for much of the weekend.) But I did manage to snap a few, so here goes!
This guy had an original costume from Seaquest DSV!!! That was one of my absolute favorite shows as a kid. He told me how he managed to snag this jumpsuit at some sort of Hollywood prop auction – I’m so jealous! (Meanwhile I’m wearing my Stormtrooper tank and the awesome new jeans from Lulu*s I picked up at the Texas Style Council swap!)
We also saw an awesome Deathtrooper!!! (That’s a girl under that armor, which makes it even cooler in my opinion!)
The crowds were insane, as usual. A view from up high, Saturday night looking down at the chaos at the Marriott, the main party hotel to show off and look at costumes!
Last year David joined the 501st Legion just before Dragon*Con and the parade that weekend was his first troop. This past year, I joined up too, so I got to march in the parade for the first time, as an Imperial officer. The bad thing about us being at the back of the parade is, we don’t get to watch any of it or see anyone who is in the front of the parade. The cool thing about waiting for the parade to start though is checking out all of the awesome costumes nearby!
The Star Wars groups were staging right across from the Battlestar Galactica group, which is awesome, because David and I are both BIG Battlestar fans! There were a couple of epic old-school Cylons, and a really cool Cylon costume based on the new series. (The tall looking redhead girl in the photos above is the new-school Cylon, she just doesn’t have the head piece on in this photo.)
I also loved this guy being attacked by a Ewok. He was a crowd favorite during the parade. So were the Muppet Stormtroopers! They even had music to accompany them in the form of The Muppet Show theme song!
David and I, rocking our steampunk inspired finest.
Our favorite part about Dragon*Con is getting to see our friends Brian & Gwen from Sigh Co. Graphics. They used to live here in NOLA, but moved to Portland, Oregon a few years ago. This was probably their last Dragon*Con, as the trip from Portland to Atlanta is pretty far!!
