This past Saturday night marked the 4th edition of the NOLA version of the Star Wars Dance Party!!
When I first heard about the plans for this latest dance party, I encouraged my boyfriend David to see about getting involved and doing some sort of charitable activity there to benefit the Michael J Fox Foundation. David’s dad passed away at the beginning of this year after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, so it’s a cause that is very special to both of our hearts. Luckily our friend Matt, who is one of the organizers of the Star Wars Dance Party, was into the idea of us doing a photo booth to raise money for the cause.
One of the other members of our local garrison has this rad backdrop of the Death Star hallway, which we borrowed for the photo booth. And since David is a film guy, we luckily had pretty much everything else we needed to make it happen. (Want more ideas on how to set up your own DIY photo booth? Check out my friend Rebekah’s guest post all about it.)
We ended up raising $348 for the Michael J Fox Foundation, on Saturday night alone! That’s not counting the money the Bast Alpha Garrison raised the night before at the Zephyr’s Star Wars night, or what friends pitched in to the online campaign! (Overall we raised over $800! Well surpassing David’s original goal of $500!!!)
A big HUGE thanks to everyone who helped in making this night happen, and to all of those who came out and donated too! We couldn’t have done it without you!!!!!
