Welcome to Miss Malaprop!

Hi! My name is Mallory Whitfield, and I’m so glad you discovered my site!

When I started MissMalaprop.com back in 2006, I’d already been running my creative business and selling at craft shows for a few years under a different business name. I originally created this site with the long-term goal of opening both a brick and mortar boutique and an e-commerce store dedicated to handmade and eco-friendly goods.

For the first few years, I used this blog to showcase my favorite indie artists. By 2010, I launched an online shop and also sold my own handmade creations and the work of other artists at craft shows, festivals and other events around New Orleans and beyond. I also worked in retail during the same time, and studied the art & science of retail sales.

By the end of 2013, I was burnt out. Doing craft shows and selling in a retail store is fun, but I’d realized it wasn’t what I wanted anymore. Along the way though, I’d learned a TON about business, online marketing and so much more.

In 2014, I transitioned to a full-time job in digital marketing. Over the next few years I enhanced my marketing knowledge and skills even more, and I also discovered a love of teaching that knowledge to others.

I had learned so much the hard way in my own business, and at my day job I had seen plenty of small business owners who had made mistakes and wasted money on things that didn’t work. I didn’t want to see that trend continue so I made it my mission to teach other artists and makers everything I know.

I love this Doctor Who inspired “We’re All Stories In The End” tank top from indie designer Jordandené. Learn more at MissMalaprop.com
