giveaways

I recently discovered the work of new-to-NOLA jewelry designer Rahya, and immediately fell in love with the bright colors and bold designs of her laser cut acrylic jewelry line, Olive. She says, “I met the laser cutter in 2009, and we immediately made a love connection!”

Her latest pieces are inspired by Islamic and Asian architecture, as well as her own love of the architecture and culture found in New Orleans. On her website and on her Facebook page, you’ll find cuffs, earrings and pendants that play on themes found in ancient perforated screens and lattice work, but in a dazzlingly modern array of colors and styles.

Rahya has generously offered up a $30 gift certificate for one lucky Miss Malaprop reader!

To enter to win the $30 gift certificate, just head on over to Rahya Jewelry Designs to check out her work, then come back here & leave a comment on this post letting me know which piece is your favorite!

Post your comment by midnight on Friday, August 5, 2011 (Central Standard Time – go here to figure out what time that is where you are).

This particular giveaway is open to everyone! The winner will be chosen at random from the comments. Please use a valid email address, as that’s how I’ll be contacting the winner. (I won’t share it with anyone, I promise!) If you are chosen as the winner, you must respond to my email within 1 week from the date I send it, or an alternate winner will be chosen.

So tell me, which piece by Rahya would you choose if you win??

While I do already have a pretty clear vision for my blog and my shop, it’s always nice to hear what you guys think and make sure that I’m still on the right track! I did a reader survey a few years ago, and it was very helpful for me in making sure that I was staying true to both myself and you guys, the readers! Well, now I’ve decided to do it again, and as a thank you for participating, I’ll be randomly choosing one person out of everyone who completes the survey to win a $50 gift certificate to my online shop!

You can complete the survey here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MissMalaprop2011survey

It’s just 3 short pages of questions, and you can skip any questions you don’t feel comfortable with. You will need to fill in your email address in the field indicated if you want to be entered to win the $50 gift certificate.

This particular giveaway is open to everyone! The winner will be chosen at random. Please use a valid email address, as that’s how I’ll be contacting the winner. (I won’t share it with anyone, I promise – there is an option to sign up for my email newsletter, but if you choose “no” you can bet your bottom dollar I will respect your choice!) If you are chosen as the winner, you must respond to my email within 1 week from the date I send it, or an alternate winner will be chosen.

I’m going to leave the survey open until Friday, May 20, 2011 at midnight (Central Standard Time – go here to figure out what time that is where you are).

Lucy from fair ivy recently contacted me about their surprise package subscription service, and wanted to see if I’d be interested in reviewing one of their packages. She told me, “What we do is we send our subscribers a new unique, fun surprise package every month, wrapped completely with eco-friendly and/or recyclable packaging. Our pet subscriptions, fur ivy, are all products made exclusively in the US, and the majority are eco-friendly or even made out of recycled goods.” Sounds right up my alley, right?

fair ivy caters to women, men, girls & teens and pets with their different surprise package subscription plans. You can order just one package, or subscribe to get 2, 4 or 6 months worth of packages sent to yourself or a loved one. (I’m thinking these would be great for college students or far-away friends!) There are regular size and mini package plans, depending on how many treats you’d like them to include, and when you choose to subscribe for more months, the packages are cheaper per month.

Lucy asked me which one I would be interested in, and I told her that while I do have a dog, she doesn’t really play with toys, so the fur ivy package might be wasted on me. I asked her for the regular fair ivy package – catered to women. This is what she sent me:

Everything was packaged so neat and prettily! Unwrapping each piece, one by one, let the excitement and surprise build up!

I love this hand-printed narwal card, so cute! And the pretty blue earrings have become a favorite addition to my jewelry collection. (They match my eyes!)

Even though I told her she didn’t have to, Lucy was really sweet and sent something for my dog Molly anyway, who seemed to like these natural cheese crackers. (Also, I will not lie, I tasted one myself, and made David taste one too. Even though they are made for dogs, they’re still pretty tasty from a human perspective!)

An organic cotton reusable produce bag by Oh, Little Rabbit (you can purchase one directly from the makers here) and a reusable Tea Lovers Eco-cup. That cute little blue teacup shape on the side is to wrap the string from your tea bag around. The pretty cup is porcelain with a silicone lid and sleeve.

A pink grapefruit popsicle shaped soap, by Soapylove!

Everything in the package I received was as delightful as Lucy promised it would be! And….. I thought I would SHARE the delight with you guys! Obviously I already opened the dog treats, and I claimed the earrings for myself (they DO match my eyes, after all), but I thought I would pass on the joy and do a giveaway for the rest of the goodies!

To enter to win the Tea Lovers Eco-cup, reusable produce bag by Oh, Little Rabbit, the Soapylove popsicle soap, and the narwhal card, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post and let me know what types of things you would like to see in a surprise package!

Post your comment by midnight on Sunday, March 27, 2011 (Central Standard Time – go here to figure out what time that is where you are).

Oh, and crafters, since fair ivy features mostly handmade products, you can submit your products for consideration for inclusion in future packages!

Sign up to receive your very own surprise package subscription at fair ivy, or follow them on Facebook or check out their blog.

I wrote about the eco-friendly handmade cosmetics by Johnny Concert here last year, and now owner Joanna has asked me for a little help in picking out a name for one of their newest organic eyeliners, which will be coming out this spring. Joanna writes, “I would absolutely love for your creative indie inspired readership to pick a name for our shimmery lilac color.”

One lucky Miss Malaprop reader will get to name this next shimmery lilac color and be the first to own it! Just reply in a comment to this post with the name you choose and why. As the winner your new color and name will also be credited on the Johnny Concert website.

Here’s how it works:

1. Head on over to www.johnny-concert.com
2. Check out their current colors and names to get a feel for what they’re looking for (they’ve got a very edgy, rock n’ roll aesthetic)
3. Tell us in a comment what this next color, pictured above, should be named

This is a worldwide contest and you may enter as many times as you’d like! Winner will be notified 2/28/2011.

The winner from this contest will be notified on Johnny Concert’s Facebook and Twitter pages, so make sure to add them. (Plus if you check out their Facebook wall right now, you can find links to a couple of the other upcoming spring eyeliner colors!) You can also check out Joanna’s personal beauty blog, Beautypunk, for more green beauty and personal style tips.

So tell me – what should this eyeliner color be called?
