by MissMalaprop on December 21, 2010

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for…. the 4th Annual Flanagan’s Pub’s Christmas Variety Show is now LIVE on YouTube!

I think this is the funniest one yet. Check it out, that’s my boyfriend co-hosting with Andy Overslaugh. And some very special new characters make an appearance in this year’s show!

Want to see the previous Christmas specials? Here they are:

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! (Okay, I’m biased, but I still think you’ll enjoy them!) Happy holidays!

How did I not find this stuff sooner? So close to Christmas, but so perfect for so many geeky pals…

Video gaming console and controller ornaments by useyourdigits. I know way too many video game geeks that these would be great for.

And then of course you’d want to wrap it in this awesome Space Invaders Gift Wrap by Whimsy Press, right??

DIY Winter Projects and Calendars for the New Year!

by MissMalaprop on December 15, 2010

The lovely Bonnie of Going Home To Roost is always up to something – this time her newest creation is Celebrate Magazine! It’s a free online publication filled with over 50 pages of diy projects, crafts, recipes, instant gifts, free downloads, plus a 2010 gift guide! Just head on over here to find the magazine plus fun crafty downloads including printable gift tags and wrapping papers, a 2011 Woodland Creatures Calendar and more!

Looking for some more DIY gift wrapping ideas? Check out this super simple tutorial by StudioTO on how to make a paper gift bag out of recycled materials such as magazine pages.

And if that Woodland Creatures Calendar mentioned above doesn’t satisfy your need for a handcrafted calendar for 2011, check out this one by Jodi Passwaters of rethink ink design. Her calendar features a hand illustrated image for each month, which is printed on 100% post-consumer-waste recycled paper and tied with a fabulous re-purposed t-shirt ribbon. So cute, right?

My lovely friend Rebekah of The Craft Fiend, 504 Stitches and She Loves Me Not Clothing Company has just started a great 12 Days of Handmade Christmas series on the New Orleans Craft Mafia blog, to celebrate and promote our upcoming Last Stop Shop holiday market on Thursday December 16!

She’s already introduced one of our newest members, Sophie Johnson of  The New Storyville and the wonderful Emily Manger Davis from Sweet Olive Soap Works. (Her answers crack me up, I swear. I had a great time hanging out with Miss Emily this Thanksgiving for the annual New Orleans tradition of opening day at the horse races at the Fair Grounds!)

Check out the New Orleans Craft Mafia blog for the rest of the series, and to learn more about all of our members!

Okay, this is just awesome. Thanks to Humid Beings, I just found out about the Razzamataz Sock Monkey project that has been going on since 1999. Amazingly enough, I am actually still free on the dates they’ll be making sock monkeys this year, and the place where they’ll be doing it is really close to where I live. Who wants to join me?

Basically a bunch of people get together, spend the day making sock monkeys, and then they get delivered to disadvantaged kids in the New Orleans area. Awesome, right? They will be hosting a sock monkey building weekend workshop that is FREE and open to the public at Razzamataz Production Studios, 4820 Banks Street (Mid-City) in New Orleans (big red warehouse with a long driveway). The workshops will take place on Saturday, December 18th and Sunday, December 19th, from 10am – 6pm both days.

Don’t live in New Orleans? You can also make a tax-deductible donation of money or craft supplies, or make a sock monkey (instructions how to make one here) and send it to the Sock Monkey Project. For more info, contact Dr. Razzamataz at 504-301-8201, visit www.razzamatazproductions.com, or email ryan (at) razzamatazproductions.com

In other news, I’m also helping to organize a last minute Noisician Coalition Alternative Holiday Art Market, upstairs at Desperado’s Pizza (801 Frenchmen Street) on Friday, December 17th from 6-11pm. This comes the day after the New Orleans Craft Mafia’s Last Stop Shop on Thursday, December 16th from 6-10pm. Maybe I will need the relaxing hand-sewing involved in making sock monkeys after all of these holiday markets!
