Reinvent Your Old T-shirts – Tutorial Madness!
When I was first learning how to sew, back in high school, I started teaching myself by taking clothes apart and reconstructing them into something new. I was always doing altered fashion projects, and I was a big fan of t-shirt surgery projects in particular. So it should come as no surprise that these projects have been popular topics on my site here as well!
I love this super easy no sew DIY t-shirt vest tutorial by Wobisobi. It’s such a quick and easy way to spice up your closet and layer up an outfit!
I love her style! She’s got loads of easy DIY tee-shirt revamp ideas!
A few years ago, my friends and I with the New Orleans Craft Mafia did some t-shirt revamp workshops at the Bayou Boogaloo festival.
We did a few projects there, including some simple t-shirt into halter top projects as well as a simple tote bag. (Think the shape of those plastic grocery store bags – they’re often called “t-shirt bags” for a reason. You just cut off the sleeves & a bigger neck-hole, and then sew the bottom hem of the shirt closed. You’ve now got a bag!!)
The New Orleans Craft Mafia has also done some local workshops on making no-sew fabric necklaces out of old t-shirts. One of my most popular posts here was on the recycled t-shirt necklaces by Carole of Minuit12.
P.S. That t-shirt surgery community I used to frequent way back in the days of Livejournal? Oh yeah – it’s still kicking!
